Solid gold, sterling silver and platinum cross pendants for men, from the Faith, our best-selling cross, to the Redemption crucifix. Handcrafted in the USA, made to be worn every day, and covered by our Lifetime Limited Warranty.
Choosing a cross comes down to five things: cross or crucifix, the metal, the size, the chain you wear it on, and how soon you need it. Here's what you need to know about each one.
Cross or crucifix?
A plain cross is empty, and many Protestant Christians prefer it because it points to the Resurrection. A crucifix carries the figure of Christ, and it's central to Catholic practice.
As a general rule: if you're Catholic, lean toward the crucifix. If you're Evangelical, Baptist, non-denominational or Reformed, lean toward the plain cross. Lutheran, Anglican and Orthodox men can go either way. Buying for someone else? Choose for his tradition, not yours.
Our crucifix is the Redemption: a polished figure of Christ on a brushed, beveled cross, in gold, silver or platinum.
Which design is right for you?
Classic crosses: Faith, Courage, Celtic, Covenant and Honor, in solid 14k gold and sterling silver. The Faith also comes in 18k gold and platinum.
Diamond crosses: Faith with Diamonds and Destiny with Diamonds, set with lab-grown diamonds, and the Glory, a 14k gold cross set with a single lab-grown diamond.
Destiny: three smooth upper arms for the Holy Trinity, and a long beam that splits into two woven strands below the crossing. In 14k, 18k or 22k gold, or platinum.
Sovereign: a Gothic cross guarded by four crowned lions, with Proverbs 28:1, "The righteous are bold as a lion", engraved on the bail. Set with lab-grown diamonds, rubies and sapphires, in 14k or 18k gold, sterling silver or platinum, and in small, medium and large.
Redemption: our crucifix, in 14k, 18k or 22k gold, silver or platinum.
Gold, silver or platinum?
14k gold is the everyday pick: tough enough for a cross you never take off. 18k and 22k carry more gold and a deeper yellow. Our guide to 14k vs 18k gold explains the difference.
Silver crosses cost the least and ship from stock. Our classic silver crosses are solid sterling silver, rhodium plated for shine and protection.
Platinum is naturally white, needs no plating, and is heavy in the hand: a large Faith weighs 17 grams in platinum against 10.5 grams in 14k gold.
Whatever you choose, match it to the rest of what you wear. As Nick puts it: "A yellow gold cross worn with a steel watch is not going to get the job done."
What size cross should a man wear?
Too small and a cross gets lost on your chest. Too big and it starts to look gaudy. Most of our crosses come in two sizes:
Small: about 31mm tall and 21 to 24mm wide, or 44mm with the bail. Right for a slimmer frame, a subtle look, or wearing under your shirt.
Large: about 40mm tall and 26 to 29mm wide, or 54mm with the bail. More presence, and still something you can wear every day.
The Sovereign also comes in a medium (38mm tall), and its large is our biggest cross at 46mm (63mm with the bail).
Which chain should you wear it on?
Choose the cross and the chain together, as one set. A heavy cross on a thin chain looks wrong, and so does a bail that won't fit the chain you already own.
Width: 2mm to 3mm for a small cross (up to 3.5mm if you like a thicker chain), and 3mm to 5mm for a large one.
Length: a 20 inch chain sits high on the chest, 22 inches a little lower, and 24 inches at the middle to lower chest. Wearing a polo or a button-down? Go shorter, so the cross shows in the open collar. Wearing it under your shirt? A smaller, flatter cross on a longer chain sits best.
Fit: the bail on most of our small crosses fits chains up to 6mm, and on our large crosses up to 7mm. Each product page lists its exact bail opening.
Every cross is handcrafted in-house by our master jewelers in the USA, most of them in Houston, Texas. Every cross here is solid gold, solid silver or solid platinum: not gold plated, not gold filled, and not a gold finish over steel. Plenty of crosses sold as "14k gold" are a thin coating over steel or silver, so look for the word solid and a weight in grams. That's why each of our product pages lists the weight of every size. A small 14k Faith weighs 5.5 grams; a large 14k Celtic, 16 grams.
How long does it take?
Our silver crosses are in stock and ship within 2 to 3 business days (the Sovereign within 5). Gold and platinum crosses are handcrafted to order, which takes 2 to 6 weeks depending on the design, though we sometimes have gold crosses in stock. Each product page shows its exact production time.
Warranty
Every cross is covered by our Lifetime Limited Warranty. See our returns and warranty policy for the details.
